Remediate a known fire hazard, the right way.
Homes wired with aluminum branch circuits (common in the 1960s–70s) are a documented fire risk at connections. We remediate aluminum wiring using approved methods so your home is safe and insurable.
Between roughly 1965 and 1973, a lot of Delaware homes were wired with solid aluminum branch circuits. The wire itself isn’t the problem — it’s the connections. Aluminum expands, contracts, and oxidizes more than copper, so over years the terminations at outlets, switches, and the panel work loose, overheat, and arc. The Consumer Product Safety Commission found aluminum-wired homes far more likely to reach fire-hazard conditions at a connection.
There are two accepted fixes, and we do both: a COPALUM or AlumiConn “pigtail” that splices a short length of copper onto each aluminum connection, or a full replacement of the aluminum branch wiring with copper. We’ll tell you straight which one your home actually needs, and document the remediation so your insurer is satisfied.
The wire is fine; the connections are the risk. Aluminum loosens and oxidizes at terminations over time, which causes overheating and arcing — the conditions behind electrical fires. That’s why it’s worth remediating even if nothing has gone wrong yet.
Some Delaware insurers won’t write or renew a policy on a home with unremediated aluminum branch wiring. A documented COPALUM or AlumiConn remediation usually satisfies them — we provide the paperwork.
